I'm not sold on, however, the notion of expecting less then you won't be disappointed if you get nothing but you'll be pleasantly surprised if you do get something. If the focus was rather placed on what you could give in other ways other than materially (though that's not bad either) but in meaningful and sincere ways to others this would lead to a wonderful change in perspective on the season.
