5 Ways To Save Money By Going Green

People don’t often think of going green as being a way to save money, but some ecofriendly lifestyle changes can help you save or earn significant sums of money.

1. Recycle Old Phones

When it’s time to replace your cell phone, you can recycle your old phone at ecoatms near me. What is ecoatm? These machines allow you to exchange old phones for cash. The phones are then reused or recycled. Some of the materials used in cell phones are difficult to acquire or toxic to the environment. By recycling your old phone, you get to earn money and reduce the number of harmful substances being thrown into landfills. If you have any old phones just lying around your home, you can easily turn it into quick cash by visiting an ecoatm.

2. Start Composting

If you’re into gardening, composting your trash is a great way to save money on gardening supplies and reduce the amount of waste you generate. It decreases the amount of trash in landfills, which reduces the release of harmful greenhouse gases. You can easily compost at home using a compost pit in your yard or an indoor compost bin. Your compost will turn into a rich fertilizer that naturally repels pests. Using this fertilizer in your garden means you don’t have to purchase expensive chemical fertilizers and insect repellents.

3. Drive Less

Automobiles that use gas emit greenhouse gases and other pollutants that contribute to global warming and air pollution. You can reduce your carbon footprint by limiting how much you drive. Rather than driving solo, you can carpool with friends or colleagues or use public transportation. Switching to walking or bike riding when possible not only limits gas emissions, but it’s also great exercise. If you must drive, consider purchasing a more fuel-efficient car or electric car next time you replace your vehicle. Any of these methods will reduce the amount of money you have to spend on gas. If you switch to walking or public transportation, you could even sell your car and save money on car payments and insurance.

4. Limit Waste

The average person throws away a surprising amount of trash each day. Making a conscious effort to reduce the amount of waste you generate can help reduce the amount of trash that gets thrown into landfills. You can achieve this by limiting your use of single-use items, such as paper plates or plastic water bottles. Instead, use washable dishes when eating and keep refilling a reusable water bottle. You’d be surprised how much money you can save when you stop purchasing paper plates, plastic bottles, disposable napkins, plastic straws, single-use dryer sheets and other similar items.

5. Conserve Water

Conserving water isn’t just great for the environment, it’s great for your wallet too. There are many ways to save water and reduce your monthly water bill. You can install showerheads that reduce water pressure and sink aerators that reduce the flow from sink faucets. You can reduce the amount of water your toilet uses per flush by putting an airtight bottle full of sand or rocks in the tank, so that it requires less water to fill up. Even small changes such as waiting until you have a full load of laundry before running the washing machine or lots of dirty dishes before running the dishwasher can make a big difference in your water bill.

There are plenty of things that you can do to save money and help the environment. It all starts with being conscious of how your habits impact the planet and your spending. Once you identify problem areas, you can make changes that could reap huge rewards.
