Gosh. There are lots of money events happening around our house these days. For starters, my wife bought me a gas weed eater for Father’s day. It turned out to be used (someone had bought it from Home Depot, used it, and then returned it). I decided that I didn’t want someone else’s potential problem and would much rather put the funds toward a new
Pardon Me. Have You Seen My Camera?
Let me start by saying that my household seems to have incredibly bad luck with cameras. My wife and I have been married for over 10 years and in that time have lost or broke every single camera we’ve owned. Before the unlucky pattern was uncovered we invested in some moderately priced cameras. I still remember the fancy Sony digital camera that we purchased for
Getting Discounts We Can Use
Lately I’ve been looking at all the various gimmicks out there to get me to spend money in specific stores. Frankly, it would be pretty easy to sign up for saver cards and gift cards in lots of stores but I choose to only sign up for things like this in stores I already frequent. Here are a couple of the cards we are using,
Simple Financial Concepts Helped My Friend Retire Early
Today I went to lunch with a couple friends of mine. One is someone that I currently work with and the other is someone that I worked with for a few years until he retired last year. I’m only 36 but by talking to my friend, I could just tell I’m going to really love retirement. My goal is to get there at 50. My
Building A House Is Hard Work!
Why didn’t anyone tell me how hard it is to build a house? We continue to make progress on the lake house. A lot has happened since the last time I posted about it. We’ve been hard at work every weekend and have finally gotten to the point that we are ready for flooring and cabinets. The sheet rock is done, the painting is done
Maybe You Should Thank Your Debt Ridden Neighbor
I’m sure, if you are like me, you’ve read more than a few articles about whether money buys happiness. I happened to read the latest version on Newsweek. I particularly liked their comments on each consumer being trained to want more and earn more. It is true that our economy thrives on increased growth and production. Anyway, here’s a quote from the article that I
Money In The Bank – Cheap Cars In The Garage
It’s done. I sold my 2006 Toyota Tacoma and am now driving a 2000 Toyota Tacoma. While it was a bit stressful to do, I don’t regret it one bit. The 2000 has only 55,000 miles on it and should last for quite some time. I ended up getting about what I wanted for the 2006. The check has cleared and the money is in
Attention All Lottery Winners!
Everyone likes an instantly wealthy person. I have a special fondness for the newly rich. No, I don’t have a business proposition for you. Nope, don’t need a loan either. I just care about you and your pile of cash. I want you to be successful like my good friend Brad Duke. (okay, he’s not my good friend and he doesn’t even know me, but
What Have I Gone and Done?
If you are a long time reader of ELYM you know that I tend to make some rather “out of character” moves now and then. Usually these out of character moves have to do with automobiles. If I was smart, I think I’d just sell everything and head on over to become an Amish man or a Mennonite. At least in their culture, there is
Building A House Is Expensive
Uggggh. I just got the bill for the sheet rock. It was over $2000. That’s just for materials, delivery and staging of the sheetrock. I’ll also be having to pay upwards of $2000 to have it all hung and mud/tape/textured. I was hoping to get through sheetrock with less than $3000 in total cost. Needless to say, the wallet is feeling rather light these days.
